About Our Vineyard

Welcome to Spinning Jenny Vineyard!  We are Jennifer and Curtis Brown, a retired couple with a desire to do more with our 37-acre farm than just grow hay for area livestock and three Arabian horses that call our pasture home.  While enjoying a bottle of wine on our porch one summer evening, we decided to plant a small vineyard. We did initial research on viticulture in Virginia and that began our grape growing and wine making journey.

In late 2014, we prepped the plot, ordered 150 vines and planted them in the spring of 2015.  We toiled over them like members of our family and they grew wildly that Summer – some getting ten feet high in just a few months prompting us to order more.  Another 80 vines were planted in 2016 followed by 315 in 2017. We now had a full acre vineyard with Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Vidal Blanc, and Cabernet Franc vines.

If we were to make a go of this, we had to learn how to make wine.  In 2016 we had a very small harvest of 2nd year Chardonnay and Pinot Gris that allowed us to experiment with making a few gallons of wine.  Some good. Some not so good. In 2017 we decided to focus on wine making so we could expand to include a winery building and tasting room.

We received our Virginia Farm Winery license in August, 2018 just as we were completing the winery production area of our new building.  The tasting room and kitchen were completed in January 2019 and we opened for business on April 19, 2019. Many thanks go to our fellow area growers and vintners for all their help and enthusiasm to make Spinning Jenny Vineyard a reality.

We hope you can visit us soon.  Cheers!
